Galveston's Hottest 5-Hour Fishing Charter

Hey there, angler! Ready to hit the water for some of the best fishing Galveston has to offer? SharkTooth Charters has you covered with our top-rated 5-hour trip that'll have you reeling in the big ones in no time. From March to September, we're out there chasing monster Trout, hard-fighting Redfish, and even some toothy sharks. It's the perfect half-day adventure for both seasoned fishermen and folks just getting their feet wet.

What to Expect on the Water

Picture this: You're cruising along the Texas coast, rod in hand, with the salty Gulf breeze in your face. Our experienced crew knows these waters like the back of their hand, so we'll get you right to where the fish are biting. We provide all the gear you need, from rods and reels to bait and tackle. Just bring your lucky hat and a cooler for your catch (and maybe some snacks - fishing works up an appetite). We can take up to 4 guests, so it's perfect for a family outing or a day with your fishing buddies. And hey, if we need to head a bit further out for the real lunkers, there might be a small fuel fee - but trust me, it's worth it when you're battling a big shark!

Fishing Techniques & Hot Spots

In Galveston, we're all about versatility. Depending on what's biting, we might be drift fishing over oyster reefs for trout, sight-casting to tailing redfish in the shallows, or setting up chum slicks to bring in the sharks. We'll show you how to work a popping cork for specks, the art of a perfect cast net throw for live bait, or how to rig a circle hook for shark fishing. Our local honey holes include the jetties, Bolivar flats, and the backwater marshes - each spot offers its own unique challenge and reward. And don't worry if you're new to this - our crew is always happy to show you the ropes and help you land that trophy catch.

Top Catches This Season

Let me tell you, the fishing has been on fire lately. We've been seeing some monster trout in the 25-inch range, bull reds pushing 40 inches, and even a few blacktip sharks that'll make your drag scream. Spring and early summer are prime time for the big speckled trout, while the redfish action really heats up in late summer and fall. As for sharks, they're around all season, but they really start chomping once the water warms up in June and July. Every trip is different, but that's what makes it exciting - you never know what might be on the end of your line!

Species You'll Want to Hook

Scalloped Hammerhead: Now here's a fish that'll get your heart racing! These sharks are known for their unique hammer-shaped head, which gives them an almost 360-degree field of vision. They typically range from 6 to 10 feet long in our waters, and let me tell you, hooking into one of these is like trying to stop a freight train. Hammerheads are most common in our deeper waters from late spring through summer. They put up an incredible fight, making long runs that'll have you hanging on for dear life. It's catch-and-release for these beauties, but the photo op is worth its weight in gold.

Sea Trout (Speckled Trout): These are the bread and butter of Galveston inshore fishing. Specs, as we call 'em, are known for their spotted sides and their delicious, flaky white meat. They typically range from 14 to 20 inches, but we occasionally hook into gator trout over 25 inches. Trout love to hang around structure like oyster reefs and drop-offs. They're ambush predators, so working a soft plastic or live shrimp along the bottom can trigger some explosive strikes. The best part? They're great eating, so you can take home a fresh dinner (within limits, of course).

Redfish: Also known as Red Drum, these copper-colored bruisers are a favorite among Galveston anglers. They've got a distinctive black spot on their tail, and they can range from small "rat reds" up to massive bull reds over 40 inches. Redfish are famous for their powerful runs and their ability to tail in shallow water, making them a blast to sight-cast to. In the fall, we often see big schools of bull reds migrating along the coast - when you hit one of these schools, it's non-stop action. They're also excellent table fare, with a sweet, mild flavor that's hard to beat.

Time to Book Your Spot

Alright, folks, if you're itching to bend a rod and feel that thrill of a big fish on the line, it's time to lock in your trip. Our 5-hour charters are perfect for both newbies and old salts alike. Remember, we're only running from March 7th to September 1st, and the prime dates fill up fast. Don't miss out on some of the best fishing Galveston has to offer. Give SharkTooth Charters a call, and let's get you out on the water. Trust me, once you feel that first hit, you'll be hooked for life. See you on the boat!

Redfish

Redfish are a staple here in Galveston. These copper-colored bruisers usually run 28 to 33 inches, but can get much bigger offshore. You'll spot 'em by that distinctive black dot near the tail. They love shallow water - we're talking 1 to 4 feet deep. Look for them around oyster reefs, grass flats, and old structures. They're here year-round, but fall is prime time when they school up. Reds put up a heck of a fight and are delicious on the plate. Anglers love 'em for their powerful runs and their willingness to hit just about any bait or lure. Try a gold spoon or a popping cork with live shrimp. Here's a tip: on calm days, scan the shallows for their tails sticking up as they root for crabs in the mud. Sneak up quietly and make a cast just past them - it's a rush when they pounce on your lure.

Redfish

Scalloped Hammerhead

Scalloped Hammerheads are a sight to behold, with their unique hammer-shaped heads stretching up to 8 feet long. You'll find these shy sharks in deeper Gulf waters, usually 100-200 feet down near reefs or dropoffs. They're most active at night, hunting smaller fish and squid. While we can't target them directly due to their protected status, you might spot one while we're offshore fishing for other species. These sharks are known for their impressive schools, though those are becoming rarer. Keep an eye out in summer months when water's warmest. If you do see one, it's a special moment - they're critically endangered, so consider yourself lucky. Best bet for a glimpse is to watch the sonar when we're over structure in deeper water. Just remember, no fishing for these guys - we're here to appreciate, not catch.

Scalloped Hammerhead

Sea Trout

Sea Trout, or Speckled Trout as we call 'em, are a favorite around here. These silver beauties usually run 14 to 24 inches, with some monsters hitting 5 pounds or more. You'll find them in the grass flats and shallow waters, especially at night. They love to hang around oyster reefs and channel edges. Spring and fall are prime times, but we catch 'em year-round. Trout put up a good fight and make for some tasty eating - light, flaky meat that's hard to beat. They're suckers for artificial lures, especially topwater plugs early in the morning. Here's a local trick: when it's calm, look for their distinctive V-shaped wakes as they cruise the flats. Cast ahead of that wake, and you're in business. Just remember to use a light touch when setting the hook - they've got soft mouths.
